The Century 16 Theater Shooting on July 20, 2012 stunned Aurora, Colorado, and the nation –  the ripple effects can still be felt today. The 7/20 Recovery Committee is committed to promoting healing and ensuring that our community remains as strong and resilient as ever. To accomplish this, we are raising public awareness about the common signs of post-traumatic stress – a very normal reaction to abnormal, traumatic events – and continue to inform people of the services available to help understand and manage their reactions. Recognizing these signs and knowing what steps to take is vital to maintaining a supportive, healthy community. The 7/20 Recovery Committee is dedicated to providing leadership in developing a coordinated and unified effort through education and outreach, trauma support, and connecting people and resources – steps that will keep Aurora – and Colorado – on the road to recovery.

The Aurora Strong Community Resilience Center opened to the public on Thursday, July 11, officially opening its doors to all Aurora residents who have been affected by trauma, or who simply want to learn resilience and coping skills to prepare themselves for unexpected trauma. The Resilience Center is located at 1298 Peoria St., Aurora, CO, 80011, in the garden level of the former Hoffman Heights library. For more information, please call 303-739-1580.  For a schedule of classes offered at the Resilience Center, please click here.
